James Russell visits

The students of Alexandra Primary School were super lucky to get to meet James Russell, the author of 'Children of the Rush' today.  He inspired our Year 7-8 students with a writers workshop where we learnt about the importance of zooming in further and further to add details, the power of layering, choosing appropriate similes, and how to show not tell. Then the Year 4, 5, and 6 students joined in for a sharing and question and answer session. James was funny, engaging and he really made us want to read more of his books.  Look out for Book 2 of 'Children of the Rush' which is almost finished.

  1. Hey there team at Alexandra Primary School it is Kerri here. What an absolute treat to have James at your kura. I can imagine he would have been very entertaining to listen to. I am interested in the idea of 'layering' - can you give me an example of what this means?
